ADVANCED PLACEMENT (AP) SCIENCE COURSES

Students electing these courses are strongly encouraged to have completed the sequence of Earth Science, Living Environment, Chemistry, and Physics. These advanced courses offer mature, in-depth handling of scientific principles involved. They are structured to parallel and satisfy the objectives of college-level courses. Each course has five classes and two laboratory sessions per week. A mandatory summer assignment is required for all students entering advanced placement science classes. Students taking these courses should have demonstrated high achievement and proven success in a challenging environment.

AP CHEMISTRY – 4710 Full year - 1 credit

Grades 11, 12

Prerequisite: Honors Policy Applies

This course is equivalent to an American Chemical Society approved college level course. The main goal of the course is to offer students a rigorous, thought-provoking college chemistry course. Students are being prepared to be critical and independent thinkers who are able to function effectively in a scientific and technological society. They will be able to analyze scientific and societal issues using scientific problem solving. It is our goal that this course will play a role in creating lifelong learners. Students will emerge from this program with an appreciation for the natural world. Students taking Advanced Placement Chemistry have already taken a first year chemistry course.
